7 June 2019

As we close out this school year, we’re looking back on what we’ve achieved in a showcase of our finest examples of artistic study and creative exploration. Throughout the year, our lessons took us back in time and across the globe, from ancient Egypt to North America’s Northwest Coast, through Australian aboriginal creation stories and into the colour theory that informed divisionist painting in 19th century France.

We were students of Morris, Matisse, Höch, Muniz, Kahlo. We dreamed up houses coated in confectionary, composed digital self-portraits, and assembled collages of crops pollinated by honeybees. We learned how Chinese Ming vases reflected the cultures of the countries to which they were exported, and how Dutch colonial trade routes made Indonesian waxprint an icon of a continent half a world away. We made some pretty pictures, but more importantly, we learned a little bit about the world through the stories told in the objects that today speak for nations and cultures.

If you are in Hanoi, please join us in celebrating the artistic achievements of our secondary students at TH School Chua Boc’s Secondary Art Exhibition. It opens Monday afternoon, 10 June, at 1:30pm in Room F301. Refreshments will be provided for parents and other guests. And speeches will be made by student representatives during special viewing times for each grade:

  • Grade 6 students: 1:30 – 2:00

  • Grades 7 & 8 students: 2:00 – 2:30

  • Grades 9 & 10 students: 2:30 – 3:00

The Art Exhibition will remain open through the end of the school year. We look forward to seeing you there!
